Why Coffee Makers Are Not Created Equal
There are lots of coffee makers available in the market today. The choice can be confusing especially if you are shopping online and would rely only on one-sided pitches by their manufacturers. The trick in arriving at a wise choice is to know the principles by which these gadgets make their coffee brew. Each appliance relies on some age-old techniques, some of which are superior to the other.
One type of coffee appliance is the French press. Basically, it is a glass jar equipped with a mesh filter and a slide that works vertically. The ground coffee is placed inside the jar and very hot (but not boiling) is added. The mixture is allowed to sit for a while, about 3 to 4 minutes. After this period allowing the coffee and hot water to mix, the mesh filter is plunged down, in effect separating the liquid from the coffee residues. The brew is then ready for consumption.
Another choice for coffee-making appliances operates on the drip principle. This type of brewer is the easiest to find as they are very common. They also come in various sizes to fit the requirements of households or even offices. Their operations are also rather simple. Just put coffee in a filter within a chamber, add water to another chamber, switch the gadget on and soon there’s already coffee brewing. Once the water is used up and the collecting pot is filled, the java is ready for drinking. A heated plate upon which the pot sits enables the coffee to remain hot for some time. Coffee makers of this design are ideal for occasions which need constant supply of the beverage, such as meetings or conventions.
Some coffee appliances rely on the old-fashioned way of boiling to prepare the brew. Many java connoisseurs, however, frown on this method as it supposedly destroys the coffee’s essence. What they avoid buying then is the percolator which sends the coffee into a boiling cycle until a desired level of brewing is achieved.
By all appearances, coffee makers are indeed not created equal. But be that as it may, individual tastes differ widely. Hence, there’s the wide variety of brew offerings at popular coffee shops like Starbucks. A brewed coffee that may taste bland to an individual may just be right for another. Eventually, let your preference be the guide, whether it’s a percolator, drip brew or French press that will grace your kitchen table.
